how do I install Sonoma on a replacement drive for my imac

Replacing bad drive on iMac 2017. need to install Sonoma OS on new drive?

iMac Pro, macOS 14.2

Unless your 2017 iMac is an iMac Pro you cannot install Sonoma on it.


Sonoma requires 2019 or later iMacs.

If it is an iMac Pro, then install the replacement drive, and then hold down the Command+R keys when turning it on to boot into Recovery. You can install Sonoma from there or whatever most current macOS version your iMac supports.
