Why does predictive text slow my typing?

Since moving to Sonoma and making use of the predictive text feature, I am noticing that when I type, it does not all input on screen and I often have to retype letters or words. It's like I am typing too fast for the Mac to keep up, but I have a Mac Studio, so it should not be problem.

Turning it off seems to have cured the problem, but I wonder if other people are finding that the predictive text feature so problematic like this.
