Lost IPhone and forgot apple ID - HELP appreciated

My non digital friend has lost his I phone - no idea what version of IOS he is on or what i phone he has. Is find my phone an automatic feature on all I phones?

I have an I pad so he has asked me for help.

We went to Find your lost iPhone or iPad with Find My - Apple Support this page and

He has forgot his Apple ID password so resetting this, i believe this takes a day or 2.

If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support - Reset your Apple ID password with the Apple Support app on a borrowed device we have done this

Is this the best way to do this or a quicker way to locate his phone

Thanks

Read this support article about what to do if a iPhone or iPad is lost or stolen -->

Find your lost iPhone or iPad with Find My - Apple Support

Read this support article to find out how to use the Find My app to locate a missing device or item. Click here --> Find your lost Apple device or AirTag with Find My - Apple Support

- A person can use the Find My app on a device owned by someone in their Family Sharing group.

- Alternatively, anybody can sign into https://www.icloud.com/find to locate their device using a browser. You don't need a two-factor code if you use any internet browser and log into www.icloud.com/find

Note that the address must include the "/find" as shown above.

Your friend will have to get their account working again unless they have somebody in a family sharing group who can try to find your friend in Find My.

Of course another way to try is to call the phone and see if somebody answers. If they do, be very careful unless you know them. Do not give out any personal information and try to arrange for a return of the phone in a safe manner.
