Apple TV does not work on a Mac

I can't make Apple TV play on my Mac. I get audio and the picture for a trailer, but then the main programme comes up with audio and a resolutely black screen. Nothing I do seems to change this. Everything is up to date on my machine. Searching the web predictably produces information which does not match the buttons or settings in my Apple TV app. How do Apple manage to make such glitchy products?

Mac mini, macOS 14.3

  1. Make sure your screen and cables and optional adapters are HDCP compliant. The specs should mention that. If they’re not, then the video signal could be blocked.
  2. Make sure Screen Mirroring or other screen capture isn’t active.
