I am trying to backup my Photos Library to an external hard drive. However, my Photos Library is not appearing in my Pictures file - or anywhere else it can be dragged from. Any ideas about what to do now?

Can Photos still find the Photos Library? Open Photos, if it is not running, then open the Photos > Settings. AT the top of the General tap is a button "Show in Finder". It will reveal the currently open Photos Library. in its folder.

Photos>Settings>General looks like this:
The first line is Library Location. Mine is in the Pictures folder.
You can also close Photos, and then option-click on the Photos icon to pull up this dialog:
If you select one of the libraries, then it will show the path to that library below.
Oops-- léonie and I were typing at the same time...
It turns out that there is a bug in the new update of Sonoma - my entire Photo Library did disappear! But we found it in icloud, and managed to import it back into the Photos program. Apple customer support was stellar. Thank you for your directions, however, and your efforts in answering my question.
