Raid0 256kb ( Mac Pro 2019 ) Finder slow on accessing large amount of small files ( 2mb )
So, I have a mac Pro 2019 with the Sonnet PCIe Silent Card and 4x4To NVME drives all configured in Raid0 256kb block size ( I used the Disk Utility Assistant ). Running Disk Benchmarks software gives me advertised reading / writing speeds ( around 11G/s, although after extensive work period, performance can drop quite significantly, not sure if it's normal or not ).
Issue is that the Mac Finder is really slow at loading ( displaying ) a large amount ( over 200 ) of small files ( around 2mb size ). As a comparision, my Back Up HDDs ( that benchmark at around 300mb/s, so considerably slower than the Raid0 ) are able to load those files almost 3x time faster... I am a bit puzzled as to why ?
Worth noting is that I'm a sound designer, so I work with quite large files ( more than 1gb ), a lot of medium sized ones ( around 30 / 50mb ), I do use Kontakt Libraries and my DAW ( audio workstation ) creates a small back file every minute in a single folder ( those files start at 500kb and can go up to 5mb ).
