Why do my videos play using QuickTime Player 7 on my MacBook Air (Intel Core i5) running Mojave 10.14.6, but not using QuickTime Player on my MacBook Air (1.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5) running Ventura 13.5.2?

I get the error: The document “xxx.mov” could not be opened. The file isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player."

The video's codec is "Windows Media Video 9 (WMV3)" with "Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV"

After Mojave Apple dropped old obsolete codecs (QuickTime Player nagged about that for a few years).

In later macOS you can usually play them with IINA or VLC or convert to current H.264/H.265 video and AAC audio wrapped as .mp4 with Handbrake, Shutter Encoder, ffmpeg etc.
