Connect how?

Apple Pay is a wireless protocol. All you do is bring your device near a compatible terminal and the iPhone does the rest. There's nothing really to connect to.

Is your iPhone updated to the latest iOS version?

There is no such thing as connecting to apple pay. Do you mean apple card? Apple pay is just a way to use your credit card on your phone at a shop, you use it with the wallet app.

How do you know it does connect? What error message are you receiving and what exactly are you doing that generates the error?
