Why is Quicktime showing my iPhone videos upside down?

Without fail, my videos are upside down. The video is shot right side up, on the phone it shows right side up, in Final Cut Pro it is right side up, and if I do get info on the file the Finder detail shows the preview right side up. But in Quicktime they are upside down.

Rotating does not work. It rotates once, then when I rotate again, it goes back. Flip vertical sometimes works, but then the video is backwards. If I then try to flip horizontal, it goes back to upside down.

I'm on a Mac M1 with Sonoma.
