When i type 'The' on my iphone it corrects to 'Theresa'

I have reset my keyboard dictionary. I have set up a text replacement to convert Theresa to The. I cannot figure out how to make it stop autocorrecting.

I have this too. Also She gets turned into Sheryl. This is so annoying. When these words The or She appear at the beginning of a sentence, I type the word, then the space bar, and the autocorrect changes it to Theresa or Sheryl. No, I did not program this substitution and no, I do not want to turn off predictive text. Please tell me how to stop this.

I was having the same problem. You don’t need to turn off autocorrect. You need to reset your keyboard to factory settings. Settings/General/Transfer or Reset iPhone/Reset/Reset Keyboard dictionary.

This has so far resolved it for me along with a lot of other word substitutions. Good luck!

This was happening to me too. My sister's name is Theresa so I used it a good bit but this situation was making me nuts. I finally went in and looked at settings.

Go to General

Keyboard

Text Replacement

Then add"The" in both the shortcut column and in the replacement column.

Now it will type The every time. I have a feeling I may be having to correct Theresa. I haven't tried that yet, but I use "The" a lot more so I'm happy with it

I didn't want to turn auto correct completely off since I usually find it very helpful

Oh my gosh—what is it with Apple replacing common words with names? Every time I type “is,” my phone changes it to “Isabella!” I don’t even know anyone with that name.

the phone also hasn’t leaned my daughter’s name, which I type often, so it corrects her name to a sorry of similar one. Argh!

l don’t want to turn off autocorrect altogether, but I’ll try the replace method.

I’ve been having the same problem, and I think I found the solution!

Go to Settings > General > Dictionaries

Then disable Apple Dictionary

For me, it was changing my friend’s name which is ‘Ty’ (no, it’s not short for anything) to ‘Tyler’

I checked text replacement, and it only had the standard ‘wat’ and ‘waya’ entries.

Why has Apple not corrected “week” being auto-corrected to “weekend?” It’s absurd and been going on for 6 months. I figured this would be fixed by now. It’s all day/every day! Honestly, iPhone auto-correct & keyboard were a million times better 3-7 iOS ago. All of those worked WAY better than now. How about Apple chucks the current keyboard and give us back the one from 3 or more years ago? Steve Jobs must be even more active rolling over in his grave than he ever was alive. Y’all need to do his memory much better justice! Step it up Apple!

Does anyone understand the idiosyncrasy of this?

For me, every "and" was changed to Anna or Andy. I reset the Apple dictionary and "and" became "Abe" or "Andrew." I put a shortcut for those, and then "and" became "And." A shortcut for that didn't help, nor did turning off auto-capitalization. Turned off the Apple dictionary entirely, and now "and" becomes "ands," every time.

Nothing I do will make a n d stay "and."

I’ve spent months thinking “the” and “there” were corrected to “Theresa” because that is my mother in law’s name and Apple learned it. I tried checking my keyboard shortcuts and no luck! Glad to hear it’s not just me, but wildly annoyed that this is still an issue months later. Please fix this, it drives me crazy.
