Why is a $10 casio calculator better than a $1,000 iPhone

I can no longer depend on the calculator in my iPhone. Pressing numbers of functions you can hear a click, but the number or function isn't entered. This has been happening a lot, and it's been happening on all the iPhones in my family. Are there plans to fix this?

iPhone 12, iOS 17

Well first this sounds like a super annoying thing. It would seriously cheese me off for sure. And again Im just another user, but seems to me your only recourse to find a solution would be to factory reset one of the two phones. Dont reinstall your old settings or programs and then if the issue still occurs it would have to be hardware related. Then install each program you use one at a time and test. I can certainly imagine what a PITA this will be. But from a support standpoint its the only true measure of how to get to the bottom of the issue. The alternative is to live with it I suppose since I gather its not under applecare and you dont have an applestore within easy reach.

It has been happening to me all the time in the regular calculator app. I MUST look at the screen to confirm it took a number as it will make the "click" sound as if the button was pressed, but it does NOT enter the number that was pressed. And it happens almost every time I do it on either of the iPhones I own. Both are on IOS 17.21, but it's been happening for a year or more. Not sure why I would hear the click if it isn't adding the number or the function that I pressed. I don't know if it happens on the scientific calculator as the only time I am there is if I need to put a number in memory. But just in writing this and checking the calculator it did it 3 times. I downloaded a third party calculator app to see how that works, but I flat out cannot rely on the iPhone calculator unless I enter numbers very slowly and look at the display to confirm it took the number. There are several other threads that report this problem and have I have seen them going back to 2022

First, I am sorry I cant be of any help but I am curious. Are you using the standard calculator app? Ive tried all the operations available and works fine for me. Are you US based? May be a region specific thing? Not to be difficult but I assume you've restated all the phones? Is there sufficient storage on them? I wonder if the calc app needs system memory to complete functions and you don't have enough. Of course you'd think at least someone in the family would not be maxed out on storage.

Just to level set, I have the 15 pro max with iOS 17.3 for personal use and iPhone 12 with 17.3 on my work phone. THough to be fair the work phone is really locked down so its possible you got a some application software update I didnt get.

I am intrigued since as you say all in your family have the same issue. I will totally follow this thread.

My main phone was reset. I just downloaded a third party calculator. I know I'm not the only one with this problem as their are posts about this. The only "answer" is "I never had that problem.. I have and I've had it for some time. I wouldn't be so concerned if it didn't make the "click" when the number or function is touched. But it DOES make the click - it just doesn't add the number or perform the function.
