Forgotten MacBook login password

i set up a pass word to get on the new laptop and even set up a hint. It will not take that information to open the laptop

The lap top has not been on line yet

It comes on and all that shows up is my name and a place to put in pass code. I can not get to settings or anything else

First please review If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support, but since the Mac is new you probably ought to contact Apple about it: Official Apple Support

You shouldn't be inconvenienced with this problem. The password hint ought to appear after three unsuccessful attempts.
