Can I connect by virtual display with the Vision Pro without a monitor on the Mac Studio?

If I have the Mac Studio by itself. No Monitor connected. And I have the Vision Pro, can I look at the Mac Studio and connect by virtual display? Or do I need a monitor connected to the Mac Studio to connect by virtual display for the Vision Pro?

Hello CuriousCreation!

Yes, you can connect any Mac, even if it is a desktop without a monitor. On Apple Vision Pro, simply open Control Center by looking upward on any view, and open your controls. Then, look at the icon that shows a Mac with Apple Vision Pro next to it. Select it and look at your nearby Mac and select connect. You will need your Mac to be paired with a keyboard and mouse, though.

The Apple Support article Use your Mac with Apple Vision Pro tells you exactly this.

I hope this helps!

This is a great question. Similarly, I had wondered whether it would work if monitor is not an apple monitor. In order to test this I disconnected my Mac Mini from my Mac Thunderbolt Display and covered up the monitor so that it wouldn't be seen by Apple Vision Pro. I found that I was still able to connect to the Mac mini. The quality of the image when connecting to Mac is fantastic. It works very nicely as an alternative display. I love that I can easily reposition that virtual display anywhere I like and can change its size at will.

That said, I don't think I could use the Apple Vision Pro for as much time as I use my regular display each day, so I would still recommend having a monitor. Depending on your application you might be able to get away with spending less on the monitor than you would have otherwise.
