Screenshots not saving on Big Sur 2023

When I take screenshots, they no longer appear on my Mac Desktop. I am running Big Sur 11.17.1. I tried using the Cmd-Shft-5 (instead of "Cmd-Shft-4") - desktop was already selected, yet the screenshots do not appear on the desktop.

iMac 27″, macOS 11.7

THere is a screen capture utility or grab utility in Applications -> Utilities that does screen grabs as well.

That works, I can put the application in the tool bar which will make accessing it quick!
