The Apple Store did a backup on a MacBook for me on the hard drive and I need to access the Photos on it. Their note reads "Only drag Photos Library back, NOT iPhoto Library". When I try to move the Photos Library back to the Desktop on my current MacBook Pro it tells me I don't have enough space to put them there. Is it possible to just open them on the external hard drive and look at them there? If so, how?

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point at your preferred Library.
From there I can transfer them over to my existing MacBook, given my space available?
Given what you say above:

Then I would guess some of them.
