Macbook air is dead and will not charge

My 2020 mac book air is dead and will not charge. I’ve tried the troubleshooting steps under others that are having the same problem. Ive tried a different charger. My charger actually works with another mac book air. Is this a software issue? If so how does it get updated?

Ok thanks. The SMC reset would only be effective on an Intel-based Mac. One thing I'm not sure that I'm getting from your post. If you plug the power adapter into your Mac, can it power-up and get to the macOS Desktop that way?

Regardless, please take a look at this user tip article, that I authored, to see if it can help with your laptop.

The "charger" is actually built into your Mac laptop. The device you connect to it is a power adapter that supplies the required current for this charger.

So, if this power adapter works with other devices, then we would need to troubleshoot your Mac to see what is causing it not to charge. Since it is a relatively new laptop, I don't suspect that its battery to be the culprit ... at least, not yet.

To get stated, is this 2020 MBA, an Intel or Silicon Mac?

You did the basic troubleshooting with Charger it works on another Mac --thank you.

Is there any light on the MagSafe plug ? when was the last time you cleaned the plug (both sides)

The device responsible for power management is called SMC. On some Mac's it helps if you reset the SMC look it up for your model.

another method is to

Start in Safe mode -- Press power to turn it on and hold the Shift Key

Safe mode will eliminate most software problems and do some minor repairs.
