McAfee on new MacBook Air

Brand new MBAir had it for 3 days and I think it's probably scamming me but I keep getting notifications to install McAfee as there's 'viruses', 'Gmail account has been hacked' and the usual notifications popping up. It's also telling me there's a software update: Sonoma 14.3...should I install?! Any, fairly urgent help greatfully received!

Anti Virus Software I have a MacBook Pro I bought in 2022.. Everything I have read states that I don't need any kind OF Antivirus software but this Norton Thing keeps popping up telling me I have 7 viruses on my computer. I have Malwarebytes and when I do a scan nothing shows up. I have never downloaded anything other than Mac Approved apps on this, and I was under the impression I couldn't get this kind of virus on my Mac. Is this Norton thing just some kind of gimmick to get me to purchase their product or do I really need some kind of antivirus software. I ask because I've been having a lot of issues with my Mac including it freezing, not responding to anything for long periods and me having to force close apps in order to get anything to work. What should I do to get it to stop freezing up there than doing the scans on Malwarebytes and what could be causing it if it's not a virus.

best antivirus for old MacAir I have an old MacAir, purchased in 2011. It uses macOS Sierra Version 10.12.6. I used to use TrendMicro but they told me the other day they not longer can support this old computer. So, I have no anti-virus right now. Can any suggest the best way to get the right security / anti-virus program. What can I do?

Yes, I would install the Sonoma update. When a new operating system is released as Sonoma was, there are often updates issued which correct issues found to exist.
