eSIM for iPhone 8 - possible?

While travelling abroad I'd like to install an eSIM on my iPhone 8. Version of my IOS is 16.2. I was wondering if this is at all possible?

If not what would be the alternatives while being abroad?

iPhone 8, iOS 16

No, eSIM installation is not possible on your iPhone 8. The eSIM capability, as we know it today, began with the iPhone XS and newer models.

If you would like to use your iPhone 8 aboard then you can:

1) Contact your carrier and check whether it offers an affordable international plan. If they do, then you can pruchase that plan for the time that you will be aboard and use your iPhone as you would in your home country. Double check with the plan limitations before you elect this option.

2) The other option is to get to the foreign country and purchase a SIM card / cellular service to use while you are abroad. When you replace the SIM card, then you should save the old SIM card, in a safe place. When you return to your home country, then you can use the old SIM card again with your regular cellular service. This option should be economical over the first option.

iPhone 8 is SIM only, so the easiest and fastest option by far would to check with your current carrier to see if they have an International Roaming Plan that you could add to your service.

The other option would be to contact a local carrier in the country you are visiting and have them install a SIM card in your phone. Having done this, things like this can be a real hassle, and you will have to contact your "normal" carrier again when you return home to get service restored back to your phone.
