my computer macbook air got locked and now is asking me for "recovery key" to set up new password. I dont remember ever set up with recovery key. what should I do? where I should look for recovery key?

It would only ask for a "recovery key" if either you, or someone else, initially set one up.
Regardless, at this point ,you will need to take your Apple laptop, along with a copy of the original purchase receipt, to your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, and they should be able to assist you with this issue.
