According to MacTracker, the Mac mini (Late 2009) can only upgrade as far as El Capitan. That's really old, so old that there is no version of Firefox for it that still gets security updates. The CPU is a 2-core Core 2 Duo.
If you're happy with the applications you already have on it – including possibly 32-bit applications, and PowerPC applications running under Snow Leopard and Rosetta 1 – go for it. If you need any sort of application updates or even just a system that's good for browsing the Web, it may be time to get a new(er) Mac.

I would second the recommendation to get the RAM from Crucial. The other "go-to" supplier (OWC) does not carry RAM for this Mini any more.
You may want to look up your specific model using Crucial's memory advisor. It looks like Crucial wants to know the processor speed along with the "Late 2009."

macs are picky when it comes to memory modules Crucial test what modules work in what computer try looking

though personally I would not spend money on a computer from 2009 it can't run latest macOS at all and mechanical parts such as the harddrive wear out so it could be living on borrowed time
