How do you change the location of quicktime new movie recordings?

I keep running out of space when I start a New Movie Recording in Quicktime Version 10.5 (1170.4.13.1).

I have a 2TB external hard drive I would like to use instead but there seems no way of changing the location.

It used to be very easy to do this (see image below)... why have Apple removed this option and can you do this in version 10?

you can use the keyboard shortcut "shift-command-5" to bring up the recording controls. then choose "options".

and then in those options, you can set your "save to" location.

but I definitely should add, I have, in the past, encountered issues with longer recordings stopping / not saving unexpectedly whenever I have selected anything other than "desktop" as my "save to" location. this has been especially true when "save to" is set to an external drive. so I now use "desktop" as my "save to" every time and afterwards I move them to my desired location manually. I haven't had an issue since.

sorry, my bad. I gave you the steps for a screen recording. for an audio recording, it is slightly different. first, you initiate an audio recording. then you stop the recording. after stopping the recording, you the red button to close the recording window.

and then, in the resulting popup window, you can set your save to location.
