The slider is occasionally present, but I can not have it appear on demand. There must be a keyboard command that causes the slider to appear. It is tiresome trying to make a book project with Motif without easily selection slides.

Thanks. My grand-daughter found, by serendipity, the solution to the phantom slider. I use an Apple bluetooth mouse. The slider will appear and stay by swiping a finger across the short dimension of the mouse.
