Macbook pro display scaling option unavailable

As per apple I can see the Macbook pro 14 inch M2 best resolution is 3024*1964, I want to use my macbook in best resolution possible. When i use that resolution, all icons, text and everything looks very small. On my previous mac I remember seeing display scaling option. In my new macbook pro on latest version I can't see the option. Can anyone help me with scaling my macbook display and use the aforesaid resolution.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.3

The 14" and 16" MacBook Pros have screens with somewhat higher PPIs than most other Mac Retina screens.

That means that if you set

  • A 27" Apple 5K Studio Display (218 PPI)
  • A 15" M2 MacBook Air (224 PPI)
  • A 14" M2 {Pro/Max} MacBook Pro (254 PPI)

side by side, and all are running in Retina modes where the scaling is exactly 2x in each direction, text will be smaller on the MacBook Pro than on the other two.

There should be scaling controls in System Settings > Displays. If Sonoma is like Ventura, whether you see

  • Five choices ranging from "Larger Text" to "More Space", or
  • A list of resolutions

will depend on how you set the "Show resolutions as list" setting in the "Advanced…" dialog.

As you can see, there is no scaling option and previously I remember seeing a "+-" option under display. checked the advanced options too, no luck there

I'm surprised that there is no "Show resolutions as list…" in your Advanced… dialog. Still, I'm guessing that these five numeric resolutions are your versions of the simplified "Larger Text" … "More Space" choices. (1024 x 665 corresponding to "Larger Text" and 1800 x 1169 corresponding to "More Space".)

If you use System Information (Option– > System Information) to examine each choice, you may find that all of them are Retina scaling modes, with (internal canvas) "Resolution:"s larger than their "UI looks like:" resolutions.

E.g., switching from the (Default) setting to 1352 x 768 might

  • Give you larger text
  • Cause drawing to take place on an internal 2704 x 1536 pixel canvas
  • Cause the computer to upscale that 2704 x 1536 pixel canvas to fit on your 3024 x 1964 pixel screen
