Move photo from Import folder to a new album

I have imported a lot of photos into the Photo app on my Macbook. To organize the photos I have created a number of albums. I wish to move the photos to the from the Import folder to their appropriated albums. This is an impossible task since when I select and move the photos from the import folder to the album the photo remains in the Import folder. Imagine you have over a thousand photos and you are trying to keep track on which ones have already been put in albums. Why in the world does the brain trust at Apple not give you a way to see which photos have been added to an album so you don’t have to parse through a thousand photos over and over and over, ad infinitum all the while trying to remember which photos have already been added to an album. This is the height of stupidity. Something as simple as “move” versus “copy” would solve the problem but this is not an option on an Apple platform.
