Fitness app in iPhone not updating activity

Hi All,

I went for my usual trek into the wooded trails today, where I generally clock nearly 3 miles in my first sprint. I had my iPhone 15 Pro with me, listening to some good music as usual. It was just updated to iOS 17.3. But imagine my surprise when I got back to the car and the Fitness app hasn't clocked any steps today.

I haven't changed any settings or how I wear/use the device. The only thing that changed is the update to iOS 17.3. I sure hope I can figure out how to fix this soon, as I rely on this for tracking my activity.

So I was having this issue and I could not find a solution. Getting desperate, I wondered if perhaps this was caused by a glitch with Apple Watch and new software. I deleted the watch from my phone and did a full reset and reinstall of the watch as a new Apple Watch. It was a pain to go through the process and pair again with my phone, but it appears to have solved the problem. Fitness/Activity again works after more than 3 weeks of being down.

I have the same problem. It is ‘unrewarding’ when you know you have achieve the reward and have gone beyond while your app is stuck at a reading much lower than you achievement and been stuck so for weeks and months. I wish there is a fix to this. The health app shows the calories, steps and distance as per my expectations whilst the fitness app does not update to these values. Very annoying.

iOS updates generally aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. Fitness app issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors.

I work in IT/tech, I back up my device (thank you). Nothing has changed on my device in terms of my application or of my usage of the device, except the iOS update. My settings for Motion & Fitness are correct, they have not been changed. There have been bugs in the past that have occurred from iOS updates (I have verified this). So let's see what the community has to say. Thanks!

Given your IT/Tech background, let me express it more clearly:

Considering your expertise in IT/Tech, wouldn't all iPhone 15 Pro devices running iOS 17.3 be affected if there's indeed a bug? Additionally, if the bug does exist, the correction can only be implemented in the upcoming iOS update. Therefore, you'll need to patiently await the release of the next iOS update for the issue to be resolved.

Hey Raynman62, thank you for confirming there may be an potential issue. I noticed today, for example, that I did my normal trek, using the same parameters and how I use the device, where I did about 3 miles.... but the device indicates barely any movement.

Now, to further complicate this, I looked at my device this evening after reading your response. And "now" the steps are updated -- 5,625 steps or 2.56 miles. But, it had been nil during the activity and even a day after.

I rebooted my device to ensure that wasn't an issue. So I am getting really inaccurate data and I'm not sure what's causing it. The only difference is the iOS update.

Thanks for replying!

I've experienced days where I will see no updates from Fitness app, then suddenly I see updates in my activity. That is, without rebooting the device (which I tried previously). Given the feedback received, there seems to be an issue or two. But, today 17.4 was released. I will take the phone out on the trails and test the Fitness app out again and post my feedback here.

I'm having this issue since I updated my iPhone 13 (and watch) yesterday... the Fitness app tells me it is not tracking, but I've checked the Privacy Settings - Motion & Fitness, and the Fitness Tracking (and Health) is toggled ON. I've had my watch on all day, and none of the rings have moved, and I can't start tracking an activity.

Been using this app on my watch now for almost 5 years, so it's a bit frustrating that I can't figure out how to correct this! (First image is from my watch - second is from my phone)
