Syncing iPad and iPhone iPhoto Galleries

I have an iPad Pro and iPhone 14, both running the latest iOS. The photos on the iPhone are stored iCloud and the ones in the iPad are not. I want to sync both photo galleries so that I can get all the photos on both devices.

Checking the settings on the iPad, the “Sync this iPad” toggle on the iCloud Photos settings is tuner off. When I turn it on I get the following message:

Does this means that the photos in the iPad or the iPhone (which are already in iCloud) will be deleted?

I do not want to loose either, as they are not duplicates, but rather the photos in my iPad were imported from my old Mac, while the ones on the iPhone (iCloud) are those that I have taken with my iPhone in the last few years.

The other thing that I do not understand is that I have 11,144 photos and 124 videos in the iPad, and 11,986 photos and 716 videos, so I do not understand where the 10,908 comes from.

Ultimately, what I would like to do is be able to access all the photos and videos from both the iPad and iPhone.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Kind of. Yes, the photos would be removed from the iPad (the ones synced by computer). But, they are still on the computer you used to sync the photos to the iPad in the first place. You could enable iCloud Photos on that computer to upload the images first if you wish.

But only, if Jlolvera did not delete some of the photos from the computer after syncing them to the iPhone and iPad.

I recommend to check, if all synced photos are still on the computer and are backed up somewhere, before allowing iCloud to delete them from the iPhone or iPad.

Hi Muguy,

Thank you for clarifying. Unfortunately that Mac is long gone. I switched to iPad only many years ago and have never looked back. I only realised recently, when Photo stream stopped working, that I effectively have 2 different photo galleries.

It looks to me that I will have to go through the painful task of sending all the photos and videos from the iPad to the iPhone through AirDrop, and then turn on the sync function in the iPad.

Maybe there is another solution that you or anyway is aware of?

Thanks

Jose
