Black Screen at start of update

Hello. Saw I needed to update. Clicked Update Now. Clicked Agree. Then my screen went black.

How do I know if it is updating? Looked online for a solution, and one Apple article suggest to leave the computer alone while it is updating. Again, what if you are staring at a black screen, and no status shows?

If you do not see the System Settings>General>Software Update

black screen typically follows after the standard warning and the upgrade has begone; most likely show the balck screen more than once in the upgrade process— this can take ~45 minutes +/-

and no progress I would try simply rebooting or if necessary—

You can always force quit a shutdown by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 sec.

Force Shut down your Mac, and try again.
