I have a clip of a greetings card that has motion applied so the card rotates slightly as I zoom out. As you can imagine, it's a stunningly dramatic effect! The moire patterning is awful. I tried applying the de-interlacing to that highlighted clip (in the timeline) but it hasn't improved. Any suggestions please? Thanks, Keith
Hi Zak, yes I'm in DV. Would I make this change to sequence seetings just for this project?
Please tell me how to change sequence settings. I tried right clicking on the sequence in the Browser and chose "Load sequence presets" but the AVCHD you suggested is not listed as an option. Please advise, thank you. Keith
Well it depends on what you're doing. In this case, you're working with photos, so I suggested changing your sequence to HD. If you're working with a DV camera or DV footage, then you would want to stick with the DV preset.
What version of FCE are you running? If you don't have an AVCHD preset, is there an HDV one?
hi Zak. I have FCE 4.0.1, using DV. The only presets are 6 Apple intermediate Codex options, 4 DV NTSC and 4 PAL.
For this project I can live with the moire effect if it's not easy to overcome, but I was curious about dealing with this "interlacing" "staircase" break-up effect in the future. I recall some earlier discussions about this on the forum, but I can't locate the threads using the search options.
I had the same type of problem with a number of photos I added to a video. Based on suggestions from this forum, I ended up adding a little bit of anti-aliasing to the photos and the moir went away. This seems initially counterintuitive, but the blurring gets the lines and such in the images to not land right on interlacing lines. The end result is great -- the pictures in the DVD look far better and sharper with the blurring than without.
It was suggested to try the following:
- Channel Blur: Effects -> Video Filters -> Blur -> Channel Blur
- Anti-Alias: Effects -> Video Filters -> Stylize -> Anti-Alias
Play with each of this and different amounts of blur to see what works best for your particular case.
Thanks for this suggestion. I think I remember reading about that before and, as you say, it seems strange but is certainly worth a try. I appreciate your contribution to this. Keith
