Wiw this is frustrating! Every time I'm near my Apple TV my Apple watch face defaults to "now playing." Except nothing is playing. I just get a stupid "not playing" message. Can I just turn this off? I hate this feature. I just want to see my watch face. I am running iOS 17.3 on an iPhone XR and WatchOS 10.3.
On your Apple Watch go to Settings/General/Autostart/ and make sure that "Auto-Launch Audio Apps" is disabled.
Also make sure, that the "Now Playing" app has been closed on your Apple Watch, and you did not add a complication for Now Playing to your Watch Face.

Yes, I've already done that. And I wouldn't be surprised if Apple were to monitor this user forum. At least, it would be sensible from a business perspective for them to do so.
