Malwarebytes protection is greyed out in Activity Monitor since last update.

My 2017 MacBook Air started freezing and acting up (address bar greyed out) and Activity Monitor shows that 'Malwarebytes Protection’ and “SettingsDaemon’ are greyed out.***

Note that the Activity Monitor appeared on my screen during update, and they were not greyed out until after system update completed.)

The update was to Monterey 12.7.3.

Looked in mac System logs and saw the word ’slowed’ or ‘failed’ in row after row and other indications of a problem.

Took it to a local computer repair store who said it was working now. Logs indicate changes from whatever they did (ran diagnostics, they said).

At the shop, Malwarebytes was running 23 seconds+ so I turned it off.

At home it still scans for @10 seconds only and in 1.5 yrs has never found anything.

Having trouble trusting Malwarebytes Premium - may be corrupted or not working properly, as Activity Monitor still shows that 'Malwarebytes Protection’ and ‘SettingsDaemon’ are still greyed out, and at home scans are back to @10 seconds.
