I have that exact Mac running all Sonoma releases from the get go, and every point update including the latest 14.3
and never saw an issue...(?)
On an Intel Mac the best you can do if a software issue—
resetting the System Management Controller Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support
resetting NVRAM/PRAM Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
further if no resolve —Revive or restore an Intel-based Mac using Apple Configurator - Apple Support
Here are some troubleshooting tips to help you with the Touch ID problem:
Troubleshooting Touch ID Issue on MacBook Pro:
1. Check Touch ID Settings:
- Go to the Apple menu > System Preferences > Touch ID. Ensure that your fingerprints are properly registered and that the Touch ID settings are configured correctly.
2. Clean Touch ID Sensor:
- Sometimes, dirt or residue on the Touch ID sensor can cause issues. Gently clean the sensor with a soft, lint-free cloth and see if that improves the Touch ID functionality.
3. Reset Touch ID:
- In System Preferences > Touch ID, you can try removing and re-adding your fingerprints to reset the Touch ID configuration. This can sometimes resolve any detection problems.
4. Update macOS:
- Check if there are any macOS updates available. Installing the latest updates can often include bug fixes and improvements related to hardware functionalities like Touch ID.
5. Restart MacBook:
- Try restarting your MacBook Pro to refresh system processes. A simple restart can sometimes resolve temporary issues with Touch ID recognition.
6. Safe Mode:
- Boot your MacBook Pro into Safe Mode by restarting and holding down the Shift key. Check if Touch ID functions correctly in Safe Mode, as this can help determine if third-party apps are interfering.
7. Reset SMC and NVRAM:
- Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory (NVRAM) can also help with hardware-related issues. Instructions for these resets can be found on Apple's support site.
If you've tried these steps and the Touch ID issue persists, it might be beneficial to reach out to Apple Support for further diagnosis and assistance tailored to your specific MacBook Pro model and macOS version.

I would start with verify your software is up to date…
The current stable release of Sonoma including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 14.3
Keep your Mac up to date - Apple Support

Thank you. I used the Safe Mode option and it is finally working. Although I have noticed that the sliding function isn't available anymore (for volume, brightness, etc.)
Only buttons. But I could wokr with that.
This is actually a common issue. Happens after Sonoma update. Not solved yet (I'm on macOS 14.4.1 now). If you search the forum you can see that more and more people is struggling with this. I have MacBook Pro M2 (2023).
I submitted ticket via "Feedback" app on my Mac. Even got a ticket number, funny thing, the ticket is open but "Recent Similar Reports: None", so I don't think they even work on the issue....
I'd ask you (all who reads it and have the issue with it) to submit a ticket via Feedback App - I'm hoping that if more people reports issues with "Touch ID after Sonoma Update" (this is my subject for the ticket, to make it consistent) via the Feedback App, it will finally get solved.
