Apps play sound when on silent

Sometimes I like to play solitaire or read the news before going to sleep. Sound is off on my iphone 14 so as not to bother my husband, but a news video might come on and play full volume, or an ad pop up with full sound. Some apps require me to still lower sound on each one individually even when sound is off. How to be silent when phone is in silent mode???

IPhone 14 Pro Playing Videos at Full Volume When Muted. To clarify, not only is my 14 Pro set to silent using the side switch, but I’ve also lowered the volume on the speakers to absolute 0. Sometimes when playing videos from the web, twitter, YouTube, etc the video’s sound will begin playing at FULL BLAST from the phone’s speakers. Sometimes it goes back to mute a second later, but sometimes I have to close the app and re-open it to fix it. I would very much like not to be occasionally jump scared by my phone, and I hate being that guy with his speakers on full blast on the plane >:(

iPhone makes a variety of noises in silent mode Just updated to iOS 16.4 and it seems Apple has added more sounds that occur despite the phone being in silent mode. Mute / unmute makes a noise, low battery alerts make various noises, as well as changing tracks when playing music in the Music (or other, Spotify) app. To Apple devs - nobody asked for this and nobody cares about your opinion on why sounds should occur when the phone is on SILENT. This is probably going to be my last iPhone because I can’t stand the various noises when the phone is supposed to be SILENT. At least add a toggle to disable the noises or perhaps make a mode where all noises are silenced. Like the silent mode, but one that actually works

Mute Switch (Iphone 15 basic, iphone 14 and older).

This is not a physical speaker switch, it operates a software control which silences some sounds but not others.

Turning Mute Switch off will silence Ringer and Notifications.

It will mute the camera shutter in most countries outside Japan.

It will not silence inbuilt Alarm or media.

It should not silence third party alarms either but it might - test it for your app..
