Mac Studio 2022 USB and Thunderbolt ports not working

Hi, I have a Mac Studio M1 Max with 32GB running Mac OS Ventura 13.6.4. I always used this computer attached to an Apple Thunderbolt monitor.

This morning there was a power failure, I noticed the monitor was black even after some mouse clicks and the usb keyboard was not responding, at first, I thought I was the monitor, but then I found out that all the USB, USB-c or Thunderbolt ports on the Mac Studio were not working.

I tried different usb proved working keyboards and mouses

I tried connecting USB 3.0 external HD, it does not even power up the led on the HD.

In fact the HDMI port remains functional, so I connected an HDMI LG screen, it worked, and connected both keyboard and mouse via Bluetooth. I was to boot and see a screen showing that I did not had any Starting Disk set up, I fount it rare, but I set it back to the Macintosh HD and the system started I am able to normally use the computer, but none of the USB or thunderbolt ports are working.

I tried all of these step, but none worked for me:

  • Turn off the computer and take out the power cable, wait a few minutes, put it back, wait a few seconds and turn it on.
  • Boot in safe mode and restart the computer.
  • Reinstall the Mac OS over my user (keeping the apps and files).
  • Updated the system to its latest version, Ventura 13.6.5.

Do you guys have any idea about what else I can try? Is it a software or a hardware problem? Any ideas are welcomed!

My guess is hardware, but that's just a guess.

If this was 15 years ago I would have suggested a PRAM reset. In your case there's Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

but the things in the document don't match the problems you are having. Maybe see if Apple has a suggestion but prepare yourself for having to send it in for repair.

No issues found. ADP000.

Incredible! It's been one year and four months since I bought it. I will ask Apple to consider fixing or replacing it for free. It looks like many others had a similar or the same problem as me.

What you guys think?

Damage from an electrical surge is not covered by the warranty. You may have to submit a claim to your homeowners insurance if it’s covered. Do you have any kind of surge protection device connected to your Mac?
