huge swap usage on MBA M2 16GB

after reboot and re-opening all apps & browser windows Im using 11gb of RAM. Ok fine.

But If I restart from sleep a few times, this grows to crazy levels like 30GB of SWAP used for the exact same apps and browser tabs open...

Is safari a huge memory hog?

I notice it doesnt 'save memory' for unused tabs like chrome does and each tab uses 0.5 - 1 gb of ram..

spec: OSX Sonoma, MBA M2, 16GB ram.

MacBook Air, macOS 14.2

well the answer seems to be - change to Chrome browser instead of safari. seeing memory usage 70% lower with Chrome than safari. Chrome suspends unused tabs meaning they dont use much memory, whereas safari tabs remain fully active and builds up to using huge amounts of memory / swap..
