Has she died? Is it hopeless? iMac 21.5″ 4K 2017

This old Intel gal might be on its last legs, but I want to be sure. I have done all the physical things—unplugged the iMac, all the peripherals, tested my power source (no problem there), waited etc., waited again, and have tried all these startup key combos—Recovery mode; Startup manager; Reset PRAM; Safe mode; Apple diagnostics utility—to no avail.

At least I have a backup, but I fear the worst—that I must plan a funeral.

Take it to your local Apple Store for free recycling and they will dispose of it responsibly. If you don't have one in your general area, then use Apple's free recycling program. You can learn about that at Apple Recycling Programs

I don't think a hazardous waste disposal site will be equipped to recover any data from this Mac ... or any Mac. If you believe that data is critical, you can actually remove the drive; install it into an external drive enclosure, and then, connect it to a working Mac to retrieve any data as needed.

Getting access to the internal drive will take a bit of effort, but you can check with the iFixIt site for detailed step-by-step instructions on how to do so.
