Can no longer delete files on my desktop
I have to go into Finder>Desktop to delete them. Is there a way to get back to being able to delete them right on the desktop?

Try restarting in Safe Mode (with all external wired periferals such as printers, scanners, External Hard Disks etc) disconnected and the restart normally and test.
As you did not indicate the method you use if the Safe Mode restart does not help, please provide more info such as the method you are using and the error message you get or what happens when you try.
BTW, do you have any of the following third party apps installed on your Mac?
· Antivirus Apps
· Cleaning Apps
· Security Apps
· VPN Apps
· Maintenance Apps
