WLAN and WAPI on my iPhone

I bought a second-hand iPhone in Australia and where it would usually say WiFI it says WLAN. It also has WAPI under the WLAN subheading. I heard this is a thing with iPhones in China but I bought the phone in Australia, this is the same thing that's on an iPad that I recently bought. My older iPhone doesn't have WAPI and says WiFi and the region and language on all the devices are Australia, and English.

I would like to know what this is about and if I can change it back to normal.

Thanks

iPhone 12

It sounds like the iPhone you purchased might be a device intended for the Chinese market. The terms "WLAN" and "WAPI" are commonly used in China instead of "WiFi." WAPI stands for Wireless LAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure, which is a Chinese standard for wireless networking.

While the region and language settings on your devices are set to Australia and English, it's possible that the iPhone itself has a firmware or hardware specific to the Chinese market, leading to the display of these terms. This could be due to the original configuration of the device or a previous owner setting it up with Chinese settings.

Unfortunately, changing these specific terms might not be feasible, as it could be deeply embedded in the device's firmware.
