New 24-inch, M1, 2021 - 8gb mistake

Hi,

I recently upgraded last Oct from an Imac 2012 26" to a new 24-inch, M1, 2021 - 8gb thinking you could upgrade the ram like the 2012 model which had 24GB of ram to realise its all built into the board so pretty stuffed.

Its not my day job but i like using photoshop and premier pro (subscription) and was hoping the new upgrade would bring me up to date but obviously ive just ended up with an expensive screen for emails and browsing etc.

The camera i use is a canon R5 which shoots in 4K and files are pretty juicey. Its unlikely i will shoot in 4k as this is more a hobby type of thing but wondered what my options would be

Would a MAC MINI be worth buying for this sort of thing? Its more home desktop use so not bothered by the laptop route. Or would the mac studio be a better choice. I assume this imac cant be used as a screen only with the mac mini/studio?

Obvisouly im trying to offset the loss on this imac but there maybe no real option than biting the bullet and buying a new machine but keen to see what others would suggest.

Use your M1 iMac as an Apple trade-in to offset the cost of a new M2 Mac mini Pro w/32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. Then a quality 4K display (e.g. LG has several) as your M1 iMac is not a display for other computers.

I have an M2 Mac Mini Pro here with the optional 12 Core CPU/19 Core GPU configuration. I use a 32-inch LG 4K Ultrafine anti-glare Ergo display (32UN880-B) with the mini and enjoy this larger screen's advantage over a 27-in screen.
