Will my Apple Watch 9 charge with an Apple Watch 5 charger

Hello, got the Apple Watch 9 as a gift but unfortunately I don’t have the usb-c adapter for it to charge. However, I have my Apple Watch 5 charger still around. I wondered if I can still charge my Apple Watch 9 with my Apple Watch 5 charger? It fits on just fine and I don’t mind if it’s slower to charge - I just want to set it up and then buy the adapter later.
