Android thinks it’s an iPhone

My friend has an Android phone

when I create or add them in my contacts it says he has a iPhone…they were not getting my messages but we were able to call one another. I deleted them from my contacts.

when they called me back it says a whole other person name?

my friends Android is brand new from the store..

how can that be?

If the SIM card that is in the Android phone was previously in an iPhone, then they may need to deregister iMessage.
