Please review this guide published by Apple 👉 Sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone

Once you have achieved what is recommended in the guide, then you can remove the SIM card from your old phone. It depends on the model of your new iPhone to determine whether it can use the Physical SIM card or not. For example, iPhones 14 and 15 models, in the US, only use eSIMs and not a physical SIM card. Once you receive your new iPhone, then contact your carrier to determine activation of the SIM for your new iPhone.
