Once in a while, though it's been more frequent lately, when I save a Pages document, the app freezes and the system freezes as well so I'm unable to restart from the Apple menu up top, I have to shut it down with the button in back. Then it's fine and the document has been saved. I'm just wondering what that could be, as it affects everything, though other apps sill function.

Are you using the correct version of Pages for your operating system, neither of which you mention? Where is the document you have opened, and where are you attempting to save it?
Are you running any anti-virus application on your Mac?
With Pages quit, press and hold the shift key while launching Pages after a hang or crash. That will avoid Pages reloading its last saved execution state, and it may behave properly afterward.
