Should I upgrade my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) from Monterrey 12.7 to Ventura 13.6.4?

I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) running on Monterrey 12.7, and I am starting to experience the iMac to be very slow when using excel 365. I am sort of a power user (multiple sheets and workbooks linked, pivot tables, macros, etc.).

When Ventura first came out I upgraded my iMac and the performance was very poor. I was then advised in this community to stay with Monterrey.

I am revisitng to upgrade because I've noticed that my iMac is running slow. I ran EtreCheckPro and nothing came out pointing to an app or anything else.

I'd appreciate any guidance.

Thank you.

usually when you are having slow speed issues, a macOS upgrade will usually make matters worse. I think your best bet would be to share your etrecheck report with us.

you can see how to post the report here by reading How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report. and it automatically obscures sensitive things (like serial numbers) so you don't have to worry about sharing the report here.

Upgrading to Ventura will not fix any slowness with Monterey. You should fix the slowness before upgrading.

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac? If you have download and run Etrecheck. Be sure to give it Full Disk access before running.

Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to paste the report in your reply.

Then we can evaluate the report to see if we can determine the cause of the problem.

Actually you should run Etrecheck even if you haven't installed an run any of those types of apps. The report is invaluable in checking the health of a Mac.
