The iPad is a terrible platform to read books. It is heavy, clunky and in broad daylight outside in the sun is very difficult to read the screen. Is there another device, similar to the kindle, which support the iBooks purchased through iTunes?
Similar to the Kindle, no. Books from Apple's Book Store (bought through the Books app these days) can be read by a variety of models of iPad and iPhone. Some have brighter screens than others, some are smaller and/or lighter than others, and there are price tradeoffs with those attributes.
