Photo albums not listed for uploads.

On my old iMac all iPhoto Events and the later replacement 'Photos' albums would be listed when trying to upload a photo but now with my new iMac on Sonoma 14.2.1. only the entire Library is shown with no option to go to a specific Album/Event. This also happens if I want to attach a photo to an email so to get round this latter issue I go into 'Photos' then into the specific Album/Event to select the photo and then use the Send option to create an email around it. If I start the other way round by creating an email and then clicking the attachment option, only the Library list comes up which I then have to trawl through for several thousand pics until I find it.
