Having issues with Podcasts and Apple Carplay

Are you downloading directly to your iPhone or are you downloading to your computer (perhaps using iTunes) and then syncing to your iPhone?

Are you using this setting?

Remove Played Downloads: Automatically delete downloaded episodes 24 hours after you play them.

When I became frustrated with Apple's Podcast app for managing podcasts, eventually gave up and switched to using the Overcast app instead.

Hide Played Episodes: Hide episodes that you fully played or marked as played.

(This setting only applies to shows you follow.)
