I am trying to rent a movie on my account but i want to use my gift card and it will not work

Users with gift cards can redeem those by transferring the card value to their Apple ID account. Then that account balance (like store credit) will be used for any future purchase of digital goods and services, before any other payment method is used. It is not an option at checkout; it has to be done in advance.
