MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2019, with Four Thunderbolt 3 ports

The MacBook Pro I have has 8 Gigs of Ram and a 500 GB HD. It's running the latest Sonoma OS. It's still running fine. I can get some $ for it on a trade-in at Apple. Should I trade it in and get a new MacBook 13 inch or should I just keep it. It's a good computer. I'm retired now so I don't use it for work as a graphic designer anymore. I use it to pay my bills, check on my finances, shoppe and surf. But since I left work, I don't have access anymore to the entire Adobe Suite. I'm on a fixed income, so I'm not sure whether I should just stick with what I have or upgrade. What do you folks think? Thanks.

It's a difficult decision, isn't it? Trade in now, or wait a couple years, when the trade in value will be less?

I'm a bit surprised you were running the Adobe suite with only 8GB RAM. Even with the vastly improved computing power of the Apple Silicon Macs, Adobe recommends 16GB RAM.

I would say, though, that if you're no longer using the Adobe suite, that maybe you no longer need the "horsepower" of the MacBook Pro, and instead could be perfectly served with a MacBook Air. You'll lose a couple of ports, of course, and the ability to connect to more than one external monitor...but it may be all the computer you need. (Mentioning this because the cost of replacing your MBP might be less than you think if you elect to go with the MBA). FWIW, I traded in my 2016 MBP last year for a 2023 15" MBA, as I retired in 2019.

The downside to waiting, of course, is that very soon your MBP won't be able to update its MacOS to the latest version.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think the MacBook Air would be better suited for me, now that, I am retired. I checked what I would get for my MacBook Pro, and Apple would give me $380 for a trade-in. I'll have to think about it. Do you know hoe much longer I will be able to upgrade my MacBook Pro?

If I had to guess, I'd say your current Mac can upgrade for another year...maybe two (but only Apple knows for sure). And just so you know...you'll get signficantly more for your Mac if you sell it yourself. Just make sure to prepare it properly for trade in or resale when you're ready to pull the trigger.
