The Air2 is capable of update to iPadOS 15.8.1; the Air2 does not support iPadOS 16.x or later.
The iPad Air2 is already well within its twilight period for system software updates - now only receiving occasional security point-updates. When these will end is known only to Apple, but consider that you might reasonably anticipate update support for five to seven years from model release.
The iPad Air2 was released nearly ten years ago (October 2014) - and currently holds the record of any model iPad for its update longevity. It is perhaps well beyond expectation for ongoing update support.
