lost contents of downloads, documents and functions of 3rd party apps after most recent sonoma update (14.3.1

After updating to sonoma 14.3.1 nothing looks or functions the same on M3 iMac. It deleted everything in my downloads and documents folder. None of my extensions (1Password) from Firefox work. Facebook is not functioning as before. Tried all suggested fixes on the 3rd party apps but to no avail. Can I rollback just the update or do I have to roll back the entire OS? Anybody else have problems with 14.3.1?

I had a similar problem in Sonoma when using iCloud to sync desktop items between multiple Macs that use the same iCloud ID. One of the Macs was marking all desktop items as "hidden" (maybe not at the permissions level, but all items were hidden, such that adding a file or folder would immediately remove that item from view).

The solution that worked for me was to turn off iCloud Drive entirely for the affected Mac (I left a copy of the files), restart the Mac, then re-enable all of the iCloud Drive settings. Problem solved, and now files sync properly and are visible.
